A geographic area of hills in the regions of Waikatu and Manawatū-Whanganui, in the west of the central North Island of New Zealand.
By 1890, peace had come to the "King Country," the Maori stronghold in the mountains, the 200-mile line from Te Kuiti to Marton had been surveyed, and work started.
