Meanings

1. (informal, slang, uncountable, usually) The phenomenon of Western celebrities or actors appearing in Japanese television commercials, often for products they would not promote in their home countries; these ads are usually marked by an absurd, high-energy, or surreal tone, catering to Japanese consumer tastes.
   • Just like Hollywood continues to grovel for its share of the expanding Chinese box office.
