From the atonal Hanyu Pinyin romanization of the Mandarin pronunciation of Chinese 鎬京 /镐京 (Hàojīng, “bright capital”).

(historical) Synonym of Hao, an ancient city in Xi'an, Shaanxi, a former capital of China under the Zhou dynasty.
The dynasty lasted a total of 790 years. It can be divided into two periods: The Western Zhou Dynasty (1,046–771 B.C.) and the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (770–256 B.C.). The Western Zhou Dynasty set its capital at Haojing (now Xi’an).
