A well-known Indian breed of zebuine cattle with a prominent hump on the withers, fatty A2 milk, and a medium-sized dewlap hanging from their throat.
Around the beginning of the 20th century, breeding of imported B. indicus Gyr cattle with Holsteins started in the 1940s (Joshi and Phillips, 1953), hoping to create an F1 phenotype that would perform well in terms of productivity while also having improved heat tolerance. This is because animals in Brazil tropical climate were unable to develop their genetic potential because of their susceptibility to heat stresses and illnesses.
