   • In 1897 the Germans occupied Kiaochow, while Russia acquired Port Arthur and Talienwan in the Kwantung Peninsula in the Gulf of Chihli and obtained the extension of her railway concession from China in order to link up Harbin in the north with Port Arthur. 1934, Walter B.
