A seam that is sewn by first stitching with wrong sides together, then stitching with right sides together so that the unfinished edges are contained within the seam.
A French seam is used as a seam finish for fabrics when the seam will show through to the right side (as in sheer fabrics), when both sides of the fabric are visible, or when there is no lining to cover the wrong side of the fabric.
