Meanings

A galaxy pair composed of two almost identical ring galaxies located at redshift z=1.14 which are undergoing collision and merger, wherein the collisional zone forms the beak, and the two rings form the eyes of the owl face.
Through detailed imaging and spectroscopy, the Cosmic Owl was observed at a redshift of 1.14, which places it at a significant distance in the early universe.
