Etymology
From a 1972 publication by linguist Edgar Gregersen. Other linguists have used other terms for this proposed phylum including Negro, Niger-Saharan and Negro-African.
Meanings
- A proposed superphylum suggesting a genetic relationship between the Nilo-Saharan language family and the Niger-Congo language family.
