(European-Union) A person who has been selected to become European Commissioner by the President of the European Commission but is yet to be approved by their respective parliamentary committee.
It's expected in late September and October each Commissioner-designate will face an hours-long grilling by the European Parliament. Typically, at least one commissioner might fail the test (three failed the last go around).
