From Latin Avallōnia and īnsula Avallōnis, from Proto-Brythonic *aβaln (“apple tree”), from Proto-Celtic *abalnā, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ébōl. Cognate with Welsh Afallon /Afallach.
