(historical) In colonial India, one who argued for English, rather than Indian languages, as the medium of instruction in education.
In the ongoing debate about how best to use the funds for education in India, the Orientalists argued for the Indian languages both as objects of study and medium of instruction. The Anglicists, on the other hand, advocated the dissemination of (allegedly superior) Western knowledge through the medium of English.
